2) Is a celebrant in Greece able to officiate a civil marriage ceremony?

The only people allowed by law, to officiate a civil ceremony in Greece, are the Official Registrar, or
their local representative. With a celebrant-led ceremony there is no legal paperwork done on the
day. Most couples choosing a celebrant led symbolic ceremony in Greece will sign the marriage
documentation before or after travelling to Greece, freeing them up to have the ceremony of their
dreams in Greece. A celebrant-led ceremony in Greece is the perfect choice for any couple looking
for something very special, ideal for any couples who are unable or unwilling to provide the lists of
official translations required for a legal, civil marriage in Greece and of course for any LGBTQ+
couples too.

3) Why choose a celebrant led ceremony in Greece?
A celebrant will write a ceremony tailored just for you, no generic scripts, no time constraints. A
standard civil ceremony in Greece is short and sweet, around 15 minutes long, and is the ceremony
used for both locals and foreigners alike. It will be read out in Greek by the Registrar and translated

You can include symbolic rituals, such as unity candle, unity sand, ringwarming, handfasting, rose
ceremony, wine box, wish box, really anything you like!

9) Will our family and friends know the ceremony is symbolic?
This is totally up to you! Many couples choose to have a symbolic certificate signing at the end of
their ceremony with their witnesses. Nobody needs to know the ceremony is symbolic unless you
tell them!

10) Will the symbolic ceremony feel symbolic?
A symbolic ceremony led by a professional celebrant will not feel symbolic in any way! It is the
